COMPETENCY BASED INSTRUCTION
IN IFL
Competency Based Language Teaching is based on the idea that
knowing an abstract idea about a subject does not translate into being able to
use that information. Someone may memorize irregular verbs but not actually be
able to put them into a logical sentence to use in context.
You focus on objectives which you can measure by having
students demonstrate skills. For instance, a goal could be that by the end of
the lesson "Students will be able to use past
tense when talking about their weekend."
Most people will want to know
conversational and social skills, like chatting about sport or movies.Using CBLT means having students
learn the language through the use of authentic situations. So in language
learning you need to know why your students are learning the language to begin
with. You then cater the activities
and goals to match what students would encounter in the real world.
As it has been said, Competency
based language teaching demands that language be connected to a social
context rather than being taught in isolation. CBLT requires learners to
demonstrate that they can use the language to communicate effectively.
Most of the students are capable in preserving their
memories about the learning materials given by the teacher, but they don’t
really understand how to use it. They still have difficulties to use English.
Whereas they need it related with environment and society for they will be work
and live with.
